Artist Statement:
Colourful paintings that tell the story of our evolving relationship with the natural & digital world
I make art about how we build our identities in a world split between nature and screens. My immersive paintings layer vibrant natural elements with digital interfaces and everyday objects of desire, resulting in scenes that feel both familiar and beautifully strange. Inspired by traditional vanitas paintings and digital entropy, I look at how we consume things and how they consume us.
In my process, I start with colour in mind and intuitively work in multiple layers of collage and paint until there is harmony and depth in the composition. I then add a digital layer by either developing an augmented reality experience or translating the piece into an interface on the web. Colour pulls the viewer in viscerally, and the layering invites the viewer to slow down and look deeper.
